A Date with Aunt Kate

Dear Aidan,

Tonight, Daddy and I are going to the movies and leaving you with your Aunt Kate. She's the first aunt you actually attempted to say her name. You took a lot of coaxing and prompting and bribing (she was willing to do anything to hear you say her name) before you finally did. I don't think I've ever seen her so excited! Neither of us are quite sure why you called her Aunt Pillow that one time though. That was pretty funny!

Yo Ho! Let's Go!

Dear Aidan,

We've added some new shows to your repertoire to give Steve and Blue a much needed vacation. You've recently become friends with the "Bubble Guppies" as well as "Jake and the Neverland Pirates". I can't even begin to tell you how tickled I was when you turned around yesterday morning and said to me, "Ahoy, maties!" I nearly fell off the couch from laughing.

You continue to surprise me every day with the new things you learn, say, and do. You know your colors and your shapes. You know almost all of your body parts. You can follow simple commands (dance, tickle, kiss, don't bite). You parrot what Daddy and I say all the time which always makes for amusement. We love you so very much and can't wait to see what you'll say tomorrow.

Elmo Loves You

Dear Aidan,

Elmo loves you, and so do I! You've known for awhile that Cookie Monster says, "Yumyumyum!" But we've been trying to teach you that not all of your friends from Sesame Street say that (although, I'm sure when they get to eat cookies they do in fact say the same thing as your hairy, blue friend). You've finally learned that Elmo actually says, "Elmo loves you!", but now it's thrown you some confusion because you seem to think that all of your muppet pals say the same thing as Elmo. No doubt, Oscar and Grover do in fact love you as do Big Bird and Bert and Ernie, but since none of them really have a catch phrase, it's just easier to have them all tell you they love you. It's definitely a step up from thinking all animals say, "Moo".

Auntie Kim Part II

Dear Aidan,

I love the way you say Auntie Kim. You absolutely refuse to say the auntie part, and for whatever reason, your mouth just won't let you say the "k" even though you have no problems saying "Aunt Kate" to your auntie Kaitlyn. Instead, anytime you talk about Auntie Kim, you call her, "Him". It's equal parts precious and hilarious, and I'm dreading the day that you start pronouncing her name correctly.

Last night you and Auntie Kim colored in your coloring books. You were even so chivalrous as to pull your riding car over for her to sit on since she's too tall for your picnic table. It was wonderful to watch you share and laugh with your auntie, especially since she goes back to Egypt tomorrow. I know you're going to miss her, but she'll be home this summer, and maybe you can talk her into taking you swimming.
